Christmas bounty

A thinks I don’t need any more yarn.

(hysterical laughter fills the air)

So you you can imagine how surprised and thrilled I was to get from her the following knitting related presents:

3 cones of the silk I use to knit jewelry. She actually went to Bath to Halcyon Yarn shop bearing a list. The wonderful people took pity on her immediately and found these for her.  I am not sure what would have happened otherwise. 🙂

(colors didn’t photograph well this dark morning.  They are dark navy, blush pink and soft taupe.)

And she didn’t stop there!

I have been wanting a digital food scale for the longest time, to weigh yarn. So much easier to make socks knowing when I have used half the yarn. Also to figure out how much yardage all the bits really have before I get almost done with a project. So excited!

Then there was this book, which I have also been eyeing for some time. Our local bookstore had it, and A nabbed it.

She did really well. I might even use up some stash yarn to make her think it is all worth while.

(More laughter, of the maniacal variety.)

Mom also came through with a pair of Addi turbos – nice and short, great for hats, and this lovely Quince and Co silk blend. She must have known I sold all my blue green shawls! Now I can make one for me, right?

Beyond presents, we had a good day- both managed to be healthy enough to spend several hours at Mom’s with all my siblings and most of their families.  Good food and good conversations abounded. Met the lone nephew’s girlfriend at last! She is very nice, I hope she is around for a long time. Got the whole story of my uncle who had a stroke this week. It was dramatic, and scary for his two adult children. He’s not out of the woods yet, but he is safe and being cared for.  Lots of travel plans canceled and postponed, traded in for days spent at the hospital. Made us all appreciate being able to be together even more.

And now we are home again, taking a slow easy day. All that driving and socializing wore us out. Not back to full steam yet, I guess.

Everything is Blue!

This won’t surprise people who know me, as blue is my favorite color, but I realized today that everything I am working on is blue. A blue Christmas present for my eldest niece, and a blue beaded scarf for me, which I keep in a blue yarn bowl on the coffee table (not blue). Hmm, what? Oh, yes, I thought you knew. I have not yet finished that blue beaded scarf. I really do work on it some most days. It just is a slow progress kind of thing. I think it is the pulling the yarn through all the beads that is slowing me down. Sometimes the only work I do on it is to pull yarn through when I have a few minutes to sit. I plan on making it ten sections long, and I am almost done with the 7th one. When I get to ten, I will see if that is really as long as I want it before I finish it off. I was hoping to wear it Sunday to the carol sing, but that isn’t happening. Still, I will have it, and can wear it next year. I *might* have another scarf or shawl I can wear. 🙂

diagonal scarf 2

If you look really closely in this photo, you can just see the beads marking the diagonal triangles on the scarf. In person they are slightly less subtle. Really, they are worth the work. I hope that by the time I finish I will have figured out how to photograph it so you can see them. They are like a little touch of glitter. 🙂

Dec 14 – OMG what a list!

It is a little scary all that I have to do today! But no “work”. Yippee.

First I wait for the bugman to come do his quarterly inspection and treatment, which we need, as there are spiders in the cellar. I hate spiders…

While I wait for him, a few household chores – laundry, clean the pellet stove, maybe a little vacuuming, but probably not if I can think of ANYTHING else to do. And I do have to finish the scarf I need to mail. And wrap up the presents that need mailing today.
Once he goes, then I get into action.
On my errand list – lots of shopping!

PO to mail the presents
a trip to Ellsworth to Reny’s (my favorite local discount store, so much more fun than Wally world.) to get presents for the three families I signed up for at work yesterday. What was I thinking? Well, I was thinking that I am very fortunate and I should share the goodness, but I was NOT thinking about how much work that would add to my Friday!
While I am in Ellsworth, a stop at Grasshopper Shop for stocking stuffers for A. Still haven’t done that yet!
Then off to John Edwards for a few presents for family.
Also need a Yankee swap gift for tonight – nothing like leaving it to the last minute. :-0
then, off to Bangor, where I have to get a game for one of the kids on the list from work, and continue the stocking stuffer shopping. Also want to get a few cat toys for the kids Christmas stockings.
Over to Staples for a new calendar – 2013 is coming fast, and I am writing January appointments on scraps of paper – not good!
Need to wind up in Bangor by 5-ish for A’s company Christmas Party. I hope I can stay awake to celebrate with them all!
