Longest weekend and no real plans!

This is my favorite weekend of the year. Although I don’t love the end result of rolling the clocks back, I do love the long Sunday!

We have no real plans this weekend, and due to the power still being out in the area, no Whorls and Purls today.  That makes me sad but means I will get some other chores done.

On the agenda:

Laundry, of course.

Make jelly with all the thawed berries. And maybe a cranberry duff because I have loads of cranberries thawed now, too and don’t need more cranberry sauce.

Bring in some of the three tons of pellets and bio bricks that are in the driveway.

Dye some bits of yarn different colors for knitting ornaments.

Knit some ornaments.

Clean the bathrooms

Mop the kitchen floor (AFTER I make the jelly!)
That seems enough to do for one weekend, even of it is a long one!

I already have the blackberries dripping for jelly, and some red yarn in the dyepot.  And A and her sister are off to Belfast to go the “big” grocery store to replenish the freezer and fridge. That gives me a quiet hour or two to relax and putter at my own speed. 😉

I think it will be a good weekend!

  1. I’d not heard of ‘cranberry duff’ so I looked it up and boy does it look delicious.
Homemade jelly is a wonderfully tasty way to use the thawed berries.
Enjoy your time to relax and rest well, because you’re going to need it with all the work you’ve got lined up.
Have a great rest of the weekend.

  2. Wow you’re making great use of your extra hour! I plan to use mine for sleep:) There will be knitting, shopping, cooking and cleaning too but I’m looking forward to that extra hour of sleep a lot.

    1. You know, I never seem to get much more sleep. Maybe a little on Sunday night… but I wake up an hour earlier, so I get more day time the first week or so. It gets wasted at work except for Sunday, lol.

  3. An hour or two alone, wonderful! I hope it’s perfect so that you are refreshed. Maybe they’ll take extra long! Love the list, you’ll be keeping yourself quite busy!

  4. WOW, I’m impressed with your energy! I would do the same thing, though – I hate to waste food. During Hurricane Harvey, I made loaves and loaves of blueberry bread to use blueberries that thawed.

Inquiring minds want to know, what is a “duff”? And why are there 3 tons of pellets and bio bricks on your driveway? That’s a lotta heaviness to move to use your driveway again!

Final comment – smart girl for mopping AFTER the jelly is done! 😂

    1. Its like a cranberry upside down cake. I found the recipe a long time ago, i think on Martha Stewarts website of all things. 😉 check it out. It is a good thanksgiving day treat for those of us who don’t care about pie. 😀

Yes there is a lot of compressed sawdust out there! We got three tons of pellets in before the broken ankle, and it is getting more important to get the last two tons in before snow fall makes it hard. The bio bricks were just delivered this week, but also need to get stowed down cellar. In 6 months, there won’t be much of any of it left!

  5. Most important it sounds like you are relaxing and having fun. The cranberry duff sounds delicious. I live for turning back the clocks. That extra hour makes such a difference in the pace of life and my mood.

    1. I like the extra hour if only it didn’t make the days so short! Enjoy your extra hour, though, use it wisely! Wish I could share a slice of cranberry duff with you over the kitchen table and so e knitting!

  6. I forgot to adjust my clocks so got up, as usual, at about 4:30 . . . and found it was 3:30! I will have lots of time today, to get things done! Your jelly and duff sound yummy!

  7. You are so on top of it all! Sorry power is sketchy in your area from the storms. Were they bad for you? I had to Google cranberry duff as I never heard of that before. It looks good. Our cranberry dish at Thanksgiving is cranberry jello mold. My mum chops up cranberries, oranges, and I forget what else and mixes them all with red jello in her vintage, Tupperware mold. I’ll ask her for the recipe so I can post it.

    1. That sounds interesting too!

The storm itself didn’t seem that bad, but it was really windy, and the trees still had leaves so they didn’t fare so well.
