I’ll let the photos tell the story, for the most part.
But just so you get a feel for how laid back we were, really – this is what we did on our vacation:
Left here Friday 4/18 and drove to Charleston SC.
Arrived on Easter Sunday, April 20. Stayed at the King Charles Inn (loved everything about it except the uninspiring views from the windows.)
Walked around our little neighborhood that afternoon and ate for the first time, at Jestine’s Kitchen.
Each morning we went off on an excursion – Monday was a city tour by bus, Tuesday was a boat ride to Fort Sumter, Wednesday we drove out to Middleton Plantation, Thursday we took a horse-drawn carriage ride through the city.
Each afternoon we wandered on foot, exploring different parts of the historic district, shopping, and having “lupper” in a different place each day. Jestine’s was our only repeat on a meal, but once we found Kilwin’s sweet shop on South Market, we made sure to be there every afternoon for an ice cream. It was fabulously good, and the service was great.
Generally, we were back in our room by 5, and asleep by 7. No kidding, really. We are NOT party animals, in case you had a thought like that.
We loved our relaxing time, and were incredibly impressed by the Charleston hospitality. We have experienced “southern hospitality” before, and this had it beat in spades. Amazingly friendly people everywhere we went.
Friday morning early we left and headed up to Baltimore (and IKEA) and Saturday we made the long haul home.
Even the grocery store was gorgeous – I don’t know about yours, but mine doesn’t look this good!
