I thought I had WordPress figured out, but….   13 comments

Can anyone explain to me how these stats REALLY work?

Today it says I have had one visitor and six views. I thought that meant one person looked around the blog at 6 different things.

But then, I looked at my little country stat. That one person sure does get around – I have 3 views from the USA, 2 from Great Britain, 1 from Canada. So that shoots my understanding of what these stats are telling me. Or, I have one reader who travels a lot and fast. And keeps coming back. For which I thank you, world traveler. šŸ™‚

Anyone have any clues?

  1. No idea how wordpress works but this is the second time i’ve clicked onto your blog from England and I can confirm I havent been out of the country today!

  2. Omg I giggled so much at this, I really am not sure how it works either!

  3. check out this page: http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#viewsvisitors it explains that some visitors aren’t counted in the stats, and has lots of other info on how the stats work as well šŸ™‚

  4. I gave up trying to figure out the stats. But I will tell you that I was on your site twice this morning (this is the 3rd time šŸ™‚ Your page is all the way to the left of my screen and some is cut off, so I thought it was a fluke and left and came back, but the same. Did you do something different to your page? I know that WordPress has a lot of new things, 1/2 of which I can’t get to work, so was just wondering. I can read this post, but it is still at the very left edge of my screen.

  5. I can say that your blog is fine on my screen. As for the stats…all I can suggest is don’t look too much into it šŸ˜‰

  6. Sometimes I think the country section updates faster than the number of visitors. And that if you wait a few hours the number of visitors eventually catches up to the countries.

    • Rosemary – you are right! At the instruction of other commenters, I did a little research. Number of visitors takes up to a couple of hours to update, number of views does it in minutes. So, my world traveler got home safely. šŸ™‚
